READY FOR ECLIPSE

A head against a grey ground, modelled in long smooth planes — black hair falling on one side, a yellow-striped garment on the shoulder. And across the eyes, a rectangle has been laid over the face like a card: inside it, the same eyes repainted much larger, in pink and teal and black, staring straight out.

It reads as a pair of eclipse glasses, and also as the thing the glasses are for — the only safe way to look directly at something. The face underneath stays calm. The strip across it does not.
