FULL ECLIPSE 2026

Almost all of this painting is black, flecked with white the way a night sky is flecked. In the middle of it, a ring of cream and grey poured paint, swirled and marbled, with a hole of pure black at its centre.

And then, in the bottom right corner, very small: a white line running across the canvas like a wire, and a single figure standing on it, arms out, looking up.

That figure is about a centimetre tall, and it changes the whole painting. Without it this is an astronomical event. With it, it is somebody watching one.

Katherine Zoroa-Vecchiarelli is a self-taught painter still at primary school, based in Scotland. She works in poured acrylic, letting the colour find its own edges rather than drawing them.
