ECLIPSE / THE LAST SUN

A flat field of chrome yellow, and on it a thick black ring painted with the brush dragging — you can see where the bristles went. Inside the ring, blue and gold turn around a small irregular patch of yellow left bare at the centre. Along the bottom, a band of waves in the same strokes.

It is the same language as the two large canvases — the disc, the water, the one bare spot of light at the centre — at a fraction of the size and a fraction of the price. If the two-and-a-half-metre works are the statement, this is the sentence that actually fits in a room.

Kasimir de Dalmau Oriol was born in Barcelona in 1960 and, by his own account, painted for more than thirty years before showing the work outside his own circle.
